PARLIAMENT Wellington is located 655km south of Auckland is the capital of New Zealand. The city has about 330,000 people. Wellington is known as the "Windy City" because of the strong winds there for most of the year.

Wellington has been the capital of New Zealand since since 1865. The original capital of New Zealand was Russell in the far noth where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840. Because New Zealand is 1700kms long having the capital so far in north presented communication problems between the capital and the rest of the country , therefore ,the capital was moved briefly to Auckland, the largest city and then to Wellington because of the central location.

Wellington id the sea terminal point between the North and South Islands. The trip takes about three hourse and goes several times a day.
