Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand with approximately one milion people.
There are 3.52 milion people currently living in New Zealand which means
that one third of the population is living in and around Auckland.
Auckland is known as The City of Sails because of the world famous port there and because of the large number of leasure boats on the harbour.
The port of Auckland established a sister port relationship with Hakata in 1979. In addition , Auckland has a sister city relationship with Fukuoka, Kyushu in Japan.
Auckland was named by Governer Hobson , one of the British signers of the Treaty of Waitangi,
in honour of Lord Auckland.
